Blagojevich retrial, Rezko Levine et al waiting sentencing

From the Chicago tribune, a list of Blagojevich trial potential witnesses waiting on sentencing.

“–Antoin “Tony” Rezko: Former fundraiser for Blagojevich and Barack Obama and key adviser to Blagojevich, convicted in June 2008 of fraud, money laundering and bribery for scheming to make millions of dollars by squeezing campaign contributions or kickbacks from firms seeking business with the Teachers Retirement System and Health Facilities Planning Board. On the witness list for Blagojevich’s trial, but did not testify, and is awaiting sentencing. Still faces charges of fraudulently obtaining a $10.5 million business loan.

–Stuart Levine: Millionaire attorney and longtime Republican donor. Pleaded guilty in October 2006 to fraud and money laundering in the Rezko schemes and was the government’s top witness against Rezko. Member of both the TRS and health planning boards, reappointed by Blagojevich to both. Testified that Blagojevich told him, “Stick with us and you will do very well for yourself.” Awaiting sentencing. Faced life in prison but could get 5 1/2 years for cooperating.

–William Cellini: Longtime Republican fundraiser in Springfield who did business with TRS. Was indicted with Blagojevich on charges of fraud and extortion conspiracy and attempted extortion in connection with a plan to block a Hollywood producer’s real estate investment company from getting $220 million in teachers pension money to invest unless the producer contributed to Blagojevich. Pleaded not guilty in November 2008, got his case separated from Blagojevich’s last fall and has not had a trial date set.

–Alonzo “Lon” Monk: Blagojevich’s law school roommate, gave up a career as a sports agent to join Blagojevich and was the governor’s first chief of staff and campaign manager. Pleaded guilty in October 2009 to one count of wire fraud for attempting to squeeze a racetrack owner for a $100,000 campaign contribution. Testified at Blagojevich’s trial that the two of them, Kelly and Rezko discussed ways to make money through state government connections. Has yet to be sentenced. He faced 37 to 46 months in prison but could get 24 months because he cooperated.

–John Harris: Blagojevich’s chief of staff from late 2005 until his arrest in December 2008, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud. Testified that Blagojevich sent word to the Obama administration that he would appoint one of the president-elect’s close friends to Obama’s vacated Senate seat if Blagojevich got a cabinet post in Washington. Has yet to be sentenced, but prosecutors have promised to urge a maximum 35-month term.

–Ali Ata: Rezko associate who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about Rezko’s role in getting him his job as executive director of the Illinois Finance Authority. Testified he was at a meeting in 2003 when Ata gave Rezko a $25,000 contribution for Blagojevich and the governor asked Rezko whether he’d spoken to Ata about a state job. He gave another $25,000 the following summer and Blagojevich told him the job he got should allow him to “make some money.” Awaiting sentencing. Faced 18 months in prison, but cooperation could mean even less than the 12-month minimum.

–Joseph Cari: Former Democratic National Committee finance chairman. Pleaded guilty in September 2005 to attempted extortion after telling a company seeking TRS business it had to send $750,000 to a consultant of his choice. Testified that Rezko and Kelly tried to recruit him to raise money for a Blagojevich presidential run and that the ex-governor told him governors are in a better position than senators to seek the presidency because they can hand out legal work and other contracts to contributors.”

I still wonder what Obama found so offensive about Jesus (to the point of covering up all references to Jesus) , that Jesus is the Messiah or that Jesus is Jewish.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/04/obama-notre-dame-georgetown.html

Surprising word today that President Barack Obama’s White House asked Georgetown University to cover all religious symbols at the scene of the president’s economic speech at the Roman Catholic institution Wednesday.
and the prestigious Jesuit university agreed.
The decision, unnoticed at the time, seems likely to add further fuel to the ongoing controversy over Obama’s upcoming graduation speech at the University of Notre Dame, where the Jesuit Indiana campus is plastered with numerous religious symbols.
This includes a mosaic of Jesus Christ covering the entire 14-story southern wall of the Hesburgh Library next door to the speech site in the Joyce Center, primarily used for athletic-related events such as basketball, hockey and raucous pre-game pep rallies.

This will be extreme PC Heresy to a lot of people – but hear me out.

In regards social policy, one of the most noticeable items for all of my life has been “lessons learned from what we did to the Japanese in California in WWII”. It is extremely relevant to the present Muslim situation and how we are supposed to tell “good” Muslims from “bad” Muslims. The lesson we are supposed to have learned from WWII is to treat everybody as a friendly until it is proven (not even highly suspected) that they are enemy.

Now, here comes the heresy. That sounds like a great path to national suicide.

In order to achieve a true Learned Lesson, you have to put yourself AT THE TIME, and UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, and ask yourself if you could or should have done something different. Not monday morning quaterbacking. You can’t look back with what you know after the fact and make any sense of the actual occurrence.

Here is how you need to think. Here is how you should deal with the Muslim infiltration. Especially since we do not know enough to make a full and accurate decision.

Consider the Japanese in California. Most less than a generation as citizens. Most with many relatives and heritage in Japan. Many, if not most, still sending a lot of earnings back to homeland every week. Also Japanese culture well known for instilling multi-generational loyalty.

As long as there is no hostility between America and Japan, there is no particular downside to accepting Japanese immigrants, allowing them citizenship, and treating them as “normal” Americans.

However, as soon as hostilities break out – especially under the shadow of a SURPRISE ATTACK – what should the California authorities do with the local Japanese? What is a minimum that any rational person would do? What is the maximum you could or should do? What is the most prudent thing to do?

It is clear what the most Politically Correct thing to do is. But PC did not even then exist as a concept. The US was already in a scary European war. They were just now blindsided into another. Contrary to today when we know that US can always win wars if we have the political will, the outcome of either war front in WWII was uncertain.

Now – what is the proper lesson to learn?

Even worse, this is another Sacred Cow we are not allowed to question. The treatment of the California Japanese in WWII stands high on the pedestal of American Self-Shame.

  21. Citizen Carlyle…do I detect a little bit of sympathy in your last post for the people of Islam who are going around the world killing people in the name of Islam?

Your thoughts of comparing the Japanese situation in WWII to the present worldwide Islamic terrorist situation does not compute. That was then…now is now!

Anyone who cannot see the objective of Islam just don’t have their eyes and ears open. The word Islam means to “submit”. My question is: submit to who and for what?

Islam is a religion born in violence and is the cause of a much of the world problems today because people are objecting to the causes of Islam, and rightfully so.

It would be well worth everyones time to read and study how Islam came into existence and what is spreading it today. Then, the true purpose of Islam will be seem for what it really is. It is a world wide political movement hiding behind a religious face. Nothing more, nothing less.

Personally I do not care to live under the Islamic flag, I’m quite happy with the stars and strips we have now.

Your take on Citizen Carlyle’s comments (11:40 AM) about treatment of Japanese in WWII and the present Islamic situation was just the opposite of mine. He can clarify them for us; however, these words from his comments tell me that he considers the PC approach to our present problem is bad:
    CC says:
“The lesson we are supposed to have learned from WWII is to treat everybody as a friendly until it is proven (not even highly suspected) that they are enemy.
Now, here comes the heresy. That sounds like a great path to national suicide.”
The key words here IMO are “great path to national suicide.”

    My thoughts:
I remember the days when Japanese were put in camps. Germans in America were also watched carefully. The threat of sabotage was great during those times. Hindsight is always great but can be misleading. As CC said we were at war on two fronts and the security of the free world was seriously threatened. Since that time our treatment of the Japanese has been set forth as one of the excesses and wrongdoings by the U.S.

If we follow down the path of complete leniency with Islam we are doomed. That is not to say we must intern them, but, for pity sakes, why are we letting them have training camps to produce jihadists who have pledged to destroy us? They are using the freedom our country affords to destroy that very freedom.

  27. I’m talking about Islamic training camps right here on American soil.

  28. MIA………………….OT

Thanx for the insight. I have been reading up on the Lipoic acid as such. Seems to have some promise. Of course we have to recognise that what works for someone else may not work for me. But this is certainly not going to stop me from TRYING. When we stop trying we are beaten. This logic also applies to our common dillema which is really messing up our country. We must NEVER give up!

  29. Citizen Carlyle, the interment of Japanese in California is only shameful to the politically correct of today.

My aging aunt lived then in California. I am a native Californian. It was not seen as shameful to Americans then, nor is it now to those who lived through it. It was a healthy response to a real threat, as my 84 year old aunt would explain.

The problem of today is we don’t have the same suvival instincts that guided the people in our country who prevailed in WWII and the Great Depression. Who would have thought after 911 that in 2008 we would elect a man with a Muslim name and upbringing, who will not verify he is a natural born citizen–and be discussing the right to build a mosque at Ground Zero!!! Is this not national insanity borderline to the intent to commit national suicide?

I appreciate your intent to be fair, Carlyle, but I disagree strongly. Bring back the spirit of our WWII leaders and fighters who did not fear to put potential enemies in holding camps until there was victory! The slogan “Better safe than sorry” applies when you are at war–and do not doubt we are at war.

  30. One of the mistakes we made in the months prior to the Japanese attack upon Pearl Harbor, our leadership had become totally complacent because they thought that they were the “Badasses” of the world and NOBODY would dare to attack the US. Well history now shows us that COMPLACENCY in the face of a clear threat is the absolute LAST thing NEEDED. And in later action it was proven that the best defense is a CRUSHING OFFENSE. For those who do not have the stomach for a fight need to get the hell out of the way so that the MEN of our country can defeat our attackers. That is the way McArthur,Wainright,Eisenhower, Bradley, Patton, and later on Swartzkopf all felt about opposing the enemy. Hit the sworn enemy first, and before he can organise any meaningful counteroffensive.

Reality is that bo in on an island off the coast of mass. surrounded by poop of his crimes.

  33. I think history shows more than one lesson, in the Japanese SNEAK attack one of the lessons was the Ambassador in DC at the time was the Japanese ambassador giving assurances that war was not forth coming, meanwhile many time zones away Pearl Harbor was getting pounded. Hindsight is still 20/20 you can’t be an enemy and a friend at the same time and it behooves the United States to pay attention all the time.

    http://www.u-s-history.com/pages/h1649.html

Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii, was attacked by Japanese torpedo and bomber planes on December 7, 1941, at 7:55 a.m. Hawaii time. The sneak attack sparked outrage in the American populace, news media, government and the world
Indeed, on the morning of December 7, the Japanese ambassador in Washington, D.C., had been ordered by his government to destroy all official documents and deliver a 14-page document to Secretary of State Cordell Hull at a specific time that day. After laborious manual decoding and translation, the document was delivered later than the Japanese government had intended. The news of the attack on Pearl Harbor had already reached the White House before the Japanese ambassador arrived at the White House. The world was stunned by the news.
While there were veiled warnings and isolated events of Japanese hostilities in the weeks, days and hours ahead of the attack, no one in command at Pearl Harbor or in Washington, D.C., expected a Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, especially before war was formally declared. Effective cryptography and successful cryptanalysis were in their infancy at the time. Under-funded, under-manned and under-equipped, cryptanalysts had been ordered to concentrate on Japanese diplomatic traffic, rather than naval messages. The nation would have had a much clearer picture of the Japanese military buildup and, with the warning provided by those messages, might have prevented the disaster of Pearl Harbor.

I don’t know how you read that into what I wrote. I meant almost exactly the opposite of what you think I said. I have said here many times before that there are no moderate Muslims, just Muslims. They are all the same. Furthermore, if it turns out I am wrong and there are some good ones, I don’t know how to tell the difference.

The situation is almost exactly the same as early in the Pacific Front of WWII. You are being attacked by an identifiable enemy. Some people look and act just like the enemy, regardless of their inner beliefs. There is every reason to suspect they are all the same. And besides, how can you tell them apart?

Perhaps you were confused by what I said was a collective American Guilt. I believe the guilt is misplaced and I do not share that guilt. I’m just saying it is so pervasive, and so deeply ingrained, that it is essentially impossible to make any headway against it.

But, then – how more clear could I have been? “This way lies the road to national suicide”. Do you understand that statement???

  35. hello free speech….

Thanks for your comments…there are always those who try to explain reality in terms the average American can neither understand, or cares to understand…

The reality is simply that Islam wants to destroy the world-wide Christian civilization as we know it, and they don’t want to wait another 500 more years to do it …

The problem with their way of thinking is there are still a “few good men” who openly disagree with the way they try to accomplish their goal. I being one of those numbered among the few. From your writings I would say you are too.

WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU PEOPLE???

    Oldsalt,
I don’t disagree with you very often, but I disagree on this. FDR was looking for an incident to propel the US into WWII. He had US forces depth charging U-boats, and escorting British merchantment, hoping that they would make a mistake. The United States was reading the Japanese mail before the Japanese could even decipher it. The military was informed of the sailing of a massive carrier fleet, and it’s loss in the pacific. I firmly believe that FDR KNEW that Pearl Harbor was coming, even the date, and used the ‘inevitable’ attack to propel the US into the war. I’m not saying that FDR was wrong for doing so, if had not mobilized the US into the war we may have eventually lost, but he knew.

  39. “KILLING MISSIONARIES, FELLOW MUSLIMS, AND CIVILIZATION”
    By Alan Caruba
    August 8, 2010

    http://factsnotfantasy.blogspot.com/2010/08/killing-missionaries-fellow-muslims-and.html

“The latest news out of Afghanistan is the brutal murder of missionaries who were part of a Christian medical team. Among the many excuses for Islamic barbarism is that the West is at war with Islam. No, Islam is at war with civilization.

In early August, after having hiked for more than ten hours to bring medical aid to isolated Afghan villagers, a team composed of six Americans, two Afghans, one German and a Briton, doctors, nurses, and logistical personnel, were gunned down by Taliban in the remote Parun valley of Nuristan province about 160 miles north of Kabul.

Their crime, according to Zabiullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, was that they were “spying for the Americans” and “preaching Christianity.” They were members of International Assistance Mission (IAM), one of the longest serving non-governmental organizations operating in Afghanistan.

The team leader was Tom Little, an optometrist from Delmar, New York. He and his family had been in Afghanistan for thirty years with a break during the Afghan-Soviet conflict. He and his wife had raised their three daughters there. AIM receives private donations.

None of this made any difference to the Taliban that killed him and the others. Elsewhere in Afghanistan that day, a child was murdered by Sunni bombers and a bomb hidden in a wheelbarrow left five others dead. In Pattani, Thailand, a Buddhist husband and wife were murdered by Muslim gunmen in their bicycle shop and their 4-year-old nephew was wounded. In Kirkuk, Iraq Muslims shot a woman to death and in Baghdad two civilians were blown to bits by bombers.

Islam is an equal opportunity “religion of peace.” It kills Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and anyone else in the name of Allah. All this killing is rooted in the Koran, justified by the view that unbelievers have no right to life unless they convert. Even then, the schism between Sunni and Shiite Muslims is sufficient reason to kill each other.

There are well over a billion Muslims in a world of some six billion people and, while most undoubtedly want peace, their religion requires that the world be divided between Dar al Islam and Dar al Harb, the world of Islam and the world of war.

It can be argued that Christianity has blood on its hands and, historically, that is true, but what is most true about Islam in the last century and this one is that it represents a war on civilization itself.

In a Europe that has seen an influx of Muslims, nations there are struggling with them wherever they have gained large enough numbers to demand submission to Sharia law and other imported customs inconsistent with modernity.

Americans paid little attention to Islam until 9/11 destroyed the Twin Towers and a portion of the Pentagon. Up to then, Islam seemed far away despite a series of embassy bombings and other events.

Now Americans struggle with an Islam that wants to build a mosque within steps of Ground Zero in New York City. This has come as a shock to many, but Islam has a long tradition of building mosques over the sacred ground of others.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem was built over the site of the Jewish Temple on the Temple Mount, sacred to Jews. In Constantinople, now Istanbul, the Hagia Sophia Cathedral was converted to a mosque. Throughout India, an estimated 2,000 mosques were built on the sites of Hindu temples.

Wherever Islam gained a foothold and became the state religion—in Islam there is no separation between church and state—the backwardness, the oppression of women, the refusal to accept another religion unless its practitioners accept a second-class position in society, are all endemic to Islam.

Islam is mired in the seventh century mentality of its founder and charged with a hostility, not just to other faiths, but to modernity itself, to the advances of civilization that seeks to reduce tensions between nations and peoples.

We are not dealing with people devoid of contact with modern civilization. Al Qaeda recruits via the Internet. They show how they behead “infidels” and urge more attacks everywhere against them.

For those who leave Islam, the punishment prescribed in the Koran is death. For those who “insult” Islam, the punishment prescribed is death. And for those who bring free medical care to villagers is death.

The proposed New York mosque should be built only when a synagogue or church can be built anywhere in Saudi Arabia where Islam began and where the harshest form of Islam, Wahhabi, is practiced.

If Islam calls the world of unbelievers Dar al Harb, the world of war, why can’t the world understand that Islam is at war with it?

Of course Christianity has “blood on its hands”. BUT each time there was murder, rape, killing or hostage taking, it was a violation of Christ’s teaching. There was always Christ’s rule to fall back on and correct the behavior of these sinners. Sinners, outside and inside the Church. But that is exactly the difference with Islam: murder, rape, killing or hostage taking is the RULE, not the exception. And it is the RULE because the FOUNDER of Islam and its cohorts murdered, raped and pillaged. See the difference? Mohammed married a nine year old! This religion is of the devil himself.

  40. It seems that there was quite a misunderstanding of Citizen Carlyle’s 11:40 AM comments by some. Is this because we don’t read more carefully? Or jump to conclusions too quickly? I think his piece was quite clear and he has reinforced it just now. This rush to judgment made by some rather troubles me. We are all prone to read too quickly, but we should, perhaps, slow down in order to get the full essence of a post before we come to conclusions. Just a thought……..from someone who has been around the block a few times. (wink)

  41. Citizen Carlyle (FUBO)

PS – Do you people even understand English and simple idioms? What do you think Sacred Cow means? It is a pejorative for something stupidly sacred or ridiculously taboo. GEEZ!

I try to write something provocative. Something to get us to all stand back and be critical of “accepted wisdom”. Something to help undo the bad education that has been foisted on us and our children.

And what happens? You all soil your pants!

This is critical folks. People are already widely using the Japanese Gambit in their defense of Mosques and for not profiling Muslims. We have to question this Gambit. We can’t let them railroad us with wrong wisdom and bad lessons learned.

The situation of the Japanese and the Muslims is indeed almost identical. We are infiltrated with identifiable people with unknown or questionable loyalties to a known enemy who attacked us – a surprise attack.

Help me out here. Try to meet me at least half way!

People in California, make sure this republican guy gets re-elected. He is behind the American people, the tea party and for presidential candidates to show their birth certificate as proof of being natural-born.

These democrats try to make republicans look bad while what they are saying about them is what people want. They are insulting millions of Americans who are for the tea party.

  43. Cabby AZ………………………….
In the months prior, and soon after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, our intelligence services had identified a large number of both Japanese and German Americans who MIGHT be swayed into doing acts of sabotage, and or spying against the US. There was a sizeable Japanese American community which showed up on the “RADAR” if you will. There was so many potential saboteurs that the US Government decided that it would be necessary to round ALL of the “COMMUNITY” up and interr them into a place where they could be watched. While I agree that this may have been a shameful thing for our government to do it was at the same time something that was the ONLY logical answer in those days.We were ATTACKED by the Japanese. When the blood of the enemy is mixed in with our society, there was no other option that could be utilised as quickly as internment camps, to SEPARATE our respectiive citizens. Some of the people who were interred in the West Coast camps have been on TV over the years telling about their ordeal. There is one commonality which ALL who spoke candidly agree upon. All stated that they were rarely if ever MISTREATED while they were interred. They also stated that they had good food.and dry places to stay. While the structures left something to be desired they were not UNINHABITABLE. Some of the people said that the internment camp was a better place than where they HAD been living. While I do not necessarily agree with the internment,it was the ONLY OPTION that existed in those early dark days. FDR done what he felt was necessary to adequately defend the US. There was also a number of GERMAN Americans interred as well, but not anywhere near as many as the Japanese. I shudder to think that if push ever came to shove and it became necessary to round up ALL of the MUSLIMS in the US. First off I am very doubtful that it would ever happen, but that is NOT TO SAY THAT IT CAN’T HAPPEN. GIVEN THE RIGHT SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES INTERNMENT CAN BE UTILISED AGAINST ANY OF US. (FOOD FOR THOUGHT)!

  44. Citizen Carlyle (FUBO)

PPS – It does not matter if some in high places knew or suspected of Japanese attack. The point is that ALL the regular people thought it was a surprise. You had what were previously thought of as “somewhat odd people living way over there” minding their own business and immigrants who were no different than people from Ireland or Armenia or wherever. A little strange, but becoming Americans and assimilating.

Then you had a surprise attack. You could no longer trust people of a certain ethnicity or culture. You had no way to tell if there were good ones or bad ones.

Put yourself in their shoes. How afraid would you be of the Japanese family that recently moved into your neighborhood?

  45. Citizen Carlyle (FUBO)

Exactly my point. You have to put yourself AT THE TIME and UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES (highlighted in the original) to make any sense of this. Monday morning quaterbacking (also in the original) is not helpful or informative.

  46. Citizen Carlyle…

I’m sure glad you aren’t in a cranky mood today..I would hate to think you consider all these old veterans (including myself) in this blog are MORONS just because we can’t follow your line of thought.

I for one feel like old salt…”if you can’t lead or follow”, then get the hell out of the way and let those who can have wheel.

If I misunderstood what you were trying to say, it was simply because I couldn’t follow your logic. Was that my fault or your fault for not being clearer in your presentation?

I’m a 75 year old retired army officer with 27 years of service to my country to include three combat tours in Vietnam. I am well aware of how the “ism’s” can creep into a nation and destroy it from within.

I have a BS degree + with honors from a well known university…some may consider me a MORON, but I do not claim that honor for myself.

  47. Free Speech – You, of all people, someone schooled in law, shouldn’t be so quick to jump to conclusions. Your assessment of some topics that we discuss here is rather appalling. I often agree with you on issues, as you know, but
it would be nice if you could find it in your heart to ease up a bit when you don’t agree with a post! We do often appreciate your legal perspective.

BTW, I found an interesting comment on an article by Ben Stein, American Spectator, re. Israel with a nuclear Iran and I don’t doubt that it is true:

    james wilson| 8.23.10 @ 11:36AM
“I suspect Israel does indeed have something up its sleeve, and that it is quite unforeseen.
Nothing would surprise me more than for Israel to do what is now commonly expected of it”

Those statements rather parallel what I am beginning to think the last several days. Israel is too smart to “fall into line” with what the world is expecting from her, i.e., take action against Iran right now in the way she is being portrayed in the news. Any thoughts?

  48. Citizen Carlyle (FUBO)

Here is a little snippet from Huffington Post a couple days ago. We can’t let them heap this cr-p on us:

What the GOP and the “ground zero mosque” detractors want you to believe is that the Americans at the Muslim cultural center are not Americans. They are Muslims. And, if they are Muslims, they must be terrorists.

Remember the Japanese internment camps? The same rationale can be found behind them: they are Japanese, so they must be our enemies. We interned our own fellow citizens. We interned them for no other reason than they were Japanese Americans. Now we are poised to persecute Muslims for no other reasons than for their religious freedom guaranteed by the Constitution.

The conservative wing, which has allowed itself to be hijacked by the shrill noisemakers of the Tea Party movement for political gain of the election year, has fanned the flame of bigotry and ignorance through catchy slogans: “death panels,” “Ground Zero Mosque.” What next?

  49. Read the first comment in this article. I just about fallen out of my seat when I read that “obama is standing up for the constitution”. How can that usurper be standing up for the constitution when all he does is walk all over it. How stupid can some people be? The irony is the name of the person. The usurper picks and chooses what is in the bill of rights or constitution whatever is convenient for him. If he really was standing up for the constitution, then he would step down immediately.

If people whom vehemently oppose the given constitutional right in freedom of religion for followers of this mosque to build , regardless of the fact that they have been in the city over 20 years before 911…

Yes, although it was a sad time in the history of our country, internment was the only way to go in that tragic day and under those circumstances. We didn’t have the time to construct better housing – we had just sustained a terrible attack at Pearl Harbor and were already engaged in Europe against Hitler.
FDR government did the best they could with respect to the Japanese issue at the time. This was one of the unintended calamities of war. Wasn’t it Gen.

This is a CRITICAL question. If we cannot solve this problem, we will be ruined. Because of our American values, we are particularly vulnerable to this sort of rot from within. hello free speech….

  69. Citizen Carlyle…all you have to do is tell the people to read the history of Islam…..it clearly shows Islam as a political tool of conquest.

Any “religion” that tells it’s you how to act, what you can read, what they may eat, and spites hate for those who do not believe, when and where to pray is not a religion. It’s a system of total “controlling” a persons life from the cradle to the grave with drastic end results to those who step out of line, or do not agree with the Koran.

The Next Bailout: $165B for Unions Pensions

A Democratic senator is introducing legislation for a bailout of troubled union pension funds. If passed, the bill could put another $165 billion in liabilities on the shoulders of American taxpayers.
The bill, which would put the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation behind struggling pensions for union workers, is being introduced by Senator Bob Casey, (D-Pa.), who says it will save jobs and help people.
As FOX Business Network’s Gerri Willis reported Monday, these pensions are in bad shape; as of 2006, well before the market dropped and recession began, only 6% of these funds were doing well.
Although right now taxpayers could possibly be on the hook for $165 billion, the liability could essentially be unlimited because these pensions have to be paid out until the workers die.
It’s hard to say at the moment what the chances are that the bill will pass. A hearing is scheduled Thursday, which will give the public a sense of where political leaders sit on the topic, said Willis.
Just last week President Obama said there would be no more bailouts.

  76. http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2010/08/dispersants-cause-gulf-fish-to-absorb.html

By adding dispersants to the water to break up the oil, surfactants in the dispersants not only increase access of the non-remediated oil to the fish, but also could cause select toxic compounds in the oil to be absorbed more rapidly and make it harder for the fish to excrete those compounds.

So not only do the dispersants used in the Gulf directly pose health risks to people and sealife (see this, this, this and this) and cause the oil to sink so that oil-eating bacteria will break it down much more slowly, but it increases harm to the fish from the oil itself.

Behind closed doors, “I had been describing to the president how bad things were, telling him what I needed (and) why things weren’t working,” Brown says. “Then we walk out and he makes that comment, and I’m like, ‘What the hell.’ ”

“Brown was the scapegoat as the face of FEMA,” Lee says.

In the wake of the spill’s long-running fallout, another political target of criticism, President Obama, doesn’t come off unscathed, either

Sorry to hear about the accident with you laptop. Hopefully you can get a replacement, as you said before that it would cost so much to get yours repaired. I can appreciate how you feel.
Last year I bought a two-year old Mac laptop but didn’t start to use it until Nov. There were so many problems with staying connected to the internet, and everyone thought that it was the fault of the wireless service. After several months of trying, I was told by a supposed expert that it was the logic board, a major component. Fortunately that was not the problem (would have been about $800), but rather a faulty airport card, a much less expensive item, cost of which was shared by the company from which I bought the Mac. So, I pray you will be able to get the one you need soon.
    Take care.

I don’t know if you will read this as we have moved on to a new thread. But let me spoon feed you.

From the very beginning I was contrasting a “proper way to think about the WWII Japanese situation” against what the Politically Correct dumbnuts want us to think. From the very beginning I was MAKING FUN OF THE PREVAILING OPINION.

I brought all this up because the media and several of the Flying Monkeys have said “did we learn nothing from the WWII Japanese situation?” And I then gave several examples of people using this argument to prove my point. (It is odd that you used to pillory me for not citing sources, and then when I do, you soil your pants!)

Yes, like they do, I believe that the situations are exactly analogous. And if you thought about it so would you! My point is that the prevailing (leftist BS) wisdom is that we did the wrong thing then and that we should not repeat that mistake. The whole thesis of my “heresy” post was to put forward the idea that the prevailing wisdom is wrong. Based on the knowledge we had at the time, we probably did the only thing we could reasonably be expected to do.

NOW – LISTEN CAREFULLY – the situation is the same because we have been infiltrated and attacked by a recognizable enemy. Many of us think they are ALL the same – all Muslims are the enemy. In which case we dare not give them another inch anywhere. Better yet, deport them all. There are others who believe there are good Muslims and bad Muslims. I don’t know. But I do know that I can’t tell them apart. So it is imperative to treat them all as the enemy until we get it sorted out. That is what we did with the California Japanese in WWII.

    Now do you “get it”?
