“The awful launch week for the over-hyped, expected bestseller The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin, by controversial author Joe McGinniss, just got worse. Much worse.
After a week of universally scathing pans from the reflexively anti-Palin establishment media, McGinniss now faces the fight of his literary life: the accusation that he seems to have knowingly submitted a book to his publisher, Crown/Random House, that was filled with unproved “tawdry gossip” and rumors that lacked “factual evidence.”
In the email below, sent in January of 2011, McGinniss reveals that his manuscript, then under legal review at Crown/Random House, could not prove its most headline-grabbing allegations. And yet, many of these “salacious stories” that lacked “proof” (in McGinniss’s own words) ended up in the book, and on televisions everywhere during the author’s current media tour … without proper sourcing, and without any apparent new evidence to support them.
McGinniss’s panicked state is evidenced by the identity of the recipient to whom he sent his email of distress. Jesse Griffin was the author of an obscure, low-rent, and now-defunct anti-Palin blog that obsessed over Trig Palin’s maternity–claiming, without any evidence, that Sarah Palin was not Trig’s mother.
Was Random House aware that its prized author was making a desperate overtime bid to save face? And if so, why did it allow him to come forth with most of those tawdry accusations without proof or proper sourcing?
This would not be the first time McGinniss has found himself in trouble over accusations of unethical journalism. In 1987, McGinniss agreed to pay $325,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by the convicted murderer who was the subject of McGinniss’s book Fatal Vision. He has also admitted to having surreptitiously distributed a competitor’s manuscript about Palin that was handed to him by his own publisher. The leak allegedly damaged the commercial viability of that book.”

A lurid, sensational, defamatory story about Todd, based only on the account of a woman charged with prostitution, who is no doubt desperate for money, and who sold her story to the Enquirer, is a gift from heaven for Sarah.
Jesse, you can ridicule Sarah for calling in to the execrable Bob & Mark, but the fact is that as far as this story goes, there’s no there there. And rumors about what might come in weeks ahead are not facts. In fact, they’re garbage.”

I am for the most electable GOP candidate. I like Perry very much, but if Romney gets the nod, I will support him with enthusiasm. Right now Romney looks like he’s gaining a bit. Polls in South Carolina show him gaining there too. He’s way ahead in NH by double digits which he’s suppose to win anyway, but no one else is even coming close in NH. Here’s another interesting poll. But again, I like Perry too, and was very proud of his pro-Israel speech the other day.

A Quinnipiac University Poll released Thursday morning shows that 31 percent of registered Florida Republicans surveyed named Perry as their top choice, with Romney the pick of 22 percent. The rest of the field, led by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 8 percent, trailed badly.
Social Security won’t sink Perry.
Romney in recent days has doubled down on criticism of Perry’s past statements about Social Security. And some Florida Republicans have also hit Perry for referring to the program that provides benefits to the elderly as a Ponzi scheme.
But Florida Republican voters, it turns out, appear to largely agree with Perry.
When asked by Quinnipiac whether it was fair for Perry to refer to the program as a Ponzi scheme, more than half of those surveyed said “yes.” And when asked if they believe Perry wants to fix or to end Social Security, 60 percent said the governor wants to fix it.

I watched the video which you keyed in your 10:25AM comment. What I am about to say is in no way an attack upon you or anyone else. That said, for Perry to say that SS funding is in danger in the future is probably accurate for a number of reasons. BUT……..hade it not been used as a FINANCING SOURCE for wars, Congressional pay increases,etc in the first place, it would probably still be a viable entity. Sadly much of what was STOLEN from SS has to date NOT been repaid. Perhaps it is time for Perry to start demanding that the ILLEGAL funding of past wars, is now due to be repaid, and Congress owes SS a bi9g chunk of change as well, because their 26% pay increases was illegally funded. If Perry has the gonads to take the fight to the perpetrators themselves, then I will stand behind him in 2012.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry enters tonight’sFox News/Google debate in Orlando as the front-runner in Florida’s presidential primary, a new poll shows.
The Quinnipiac University survey shows Perry leading former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, 28%-22%, if former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is included.
In a sample without Palin, registered Republican voters prefer Perry, 31%-22%. In neither sample, no other candidate registers in double digits.
Offered the option of only Perry or Romney, respondents choose Perry, 46%-38%, with 12% undecided.
Most people are unaware of how the SS system was conceived by FDR. In the years leading up to WW2 most of the larger insurance companies sold annuities. This dates even before the depression. So the question arises, what did Congressmen Snyder and Conyers know that caused them to offer proposed constitutional amendments in the House of Representatives? More specifically, what did they know about Obama’s presidential ambitions and his inability to meet the “natural born citizen” standard, and when did they know it?
Although the Snyder and Conyers proposals might have raised some eyebrows if their attempts to amend the constitution had been widely reported and debated, it was not until the officers of the 2008 Democratic National Convention officially certified Obama and Biden as the party’s candidates that it became evident that something was seriously amiss.”

However, only the State of Hawaii, pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes §11-113, contained the phrase, “… and that the following candidates for President and Vice President of the United States are legally qualified to serve under the provisions of the United States Constitution.” Other than that, the two documents were identical… even to the misspelling of the word “through” in the second line of the certifications.
So what does that tell us? Given what is now widely known about the circumstances of Obama’s birth and parentage, one might conclude that high-ranking Democratic officials… most notably convention chairman Nancy Pelosi… were fully aware when they nominated him that Barack Obama was ineligible to serve as President of the United States, by reason of the fact that he is not a “natural born” citizen as required by the U.S. Constitution.
The bogus presidency of Barack Obama is clearly one of the most monstrous crimes ever committed against the people of the United States. But what are the chances that the full extent of the crime will ever be fully disclosed? So long as liberals and Democrats are willing to protect him at all costs, and so long as conservatives and Republicans are afraid to challenge him because of the color of his skin, Obama will likely go unpunished. However, if we could ever get the former speaker secured to a straight-backed chair, leaning backward over a large basin with a towel or wash cloth over her face and a pail of water at hand, we would almost certainly learn the truth.
Just as Khalid Sheikh Muhammad told the CIA everything they wanted to know about the planning and execution of the 9/11 attacks, Ms. Pelosi would be just as certain to spill the beans on exactly when the leadership of the Democratic Party first became aware that George Soros and Barack Obama were intent upon committing the greatest political crime of all time… the brazen theft of the American presidency.”

IF someone would have suggested when FDR started SS that it would become the program it is today, they’d be vilified and called “radical” or an “extremist” trying to put “fear” in to the people.

Although I agree with Cabby that “tapping the brakes” will slow down and minimize the destruction, unless we apply more and more brakes, the car is STILL going to hit the wall.
The problem as I see it is this:
We voted in Reagan in 1980 and he sped the vehicle up to 70mph.
Bush 41 accelerated up to 80mph.
Clinton took us to 100mph.
Bush 43 sped us up to 110mph.
Obama has us up to 120mph with his foot floored.
Unless we can vote people in that gets us back to 110, and then 100 and then 90……………and so on until we are at a speed we can sustain, then we simply are NOT doing ourselves any good.
I’m not unrealistic, I understand we can’t go from 120 to 0 in 2 seconds, we have to do it gradually..

I am for the most electable GOP candidate. I like Perry very much, but if Romney gets the nod, I will support him with enthusiasm. Right now Romney looks like he’s gaining a bit. Polls in South Carolina show him gaining there too. He’s way ahead in NH by double digits which he’s suppose to win anyway, but no one else is even coming close in NH. Here’s another interesting poll. But again, I like Perry too, and was very proud of his pro-Israel speech the other day.

Can we really be surprised to discover that Solyndra executives were big contributors to Obama’s presidential campaign or that one of Solyndra’s major investors was Oklahoma billionaire George Kaiser, a bundler of campaign cash?

Sadly many of the people who are calling SS a PONZI SCHEME were not even born yet before 1950. Thet is one reason why they don’t have a clue what or how the SS system was concieved. Yes there are variables that heve been attached to the system during the 1960s that the system was NOT designed to handle to begin with. It was originally concieved as one leg of a three legged stool. As an annuity it would have fullfilled the purpose. Other variables includes the fact that people are now living longer. Nor was SS ever meant to handed out to people who never even paid in a single dime. Nor was it meant to be a GOVERNMENT FINANCE COMPANY,and it was handed out freely and is still being handed out to ineligible people. To qualify originally you had to be a member of the annuity,and pay into it regularly. Later it became law that it would be witheld from all paychecks. This action made the system no longer a choice. It became mandatory. I believe that all people who paid in should now have the right to a refund of all that they paid in so that they themselves can administer their own SS funds. But in reality after a period of about 25 years I would be willing to bet that only a handful of those people would still have any funds left either. Most would have already used what they saved originally. Especially given todays circumstances. In reality the young people still would not have a viable retirement system in place by the time they are ready to retire. Social Security can be made only so large. After that people need to have something in addition which they can depend upon to be there qwhen they retire.

SS is a pay as you go system, it says so on the website, not an annuity.
The first people who collected did not pay into the system, for the most part.
The facts are that there are not enough people paying in now and into the future for those 1 to 50 year olds to collect benefits the same as those that are 51 and older.
There are 4 solutions IMO
A. Let it go bankrupt
B. decrease benefits for everyone to keep it solvent.
C. Increase taxes on the 18 to 50 folks so 51 and older can get theirs.
D. Call it what it now is ” The Dole ” and means test it. (canada style)

I wasn’t born until the 60’s, but became aware of the ponzi scheme’s “birth” in the late 70’s at the age of 18.
I was interested even then about politics, and the Social Security program was of interest to me because it was the FIRST program of it’s kind. Social Security was an issue when Reagan first ran for President, and I was interested in finding out how the program started. Of course I had to go to a library and actually RESEARCH it. Back then we didn’t have the luxury of having a “search box”.
I learned exactly what you wrote.

“C. Increase taxes on the 18 to 50 folks so 51 and older can get theirs.”
That still doesn’t solve the problem of not enough people contributing to the program for the number of people receiving benefits. You’d have to tax them at about the income tax rate to make the program sustainable.
I don’t think the general public would look too kindly on this solution.
Pat’s last solution:
“D. Call it what it now is ” The Dole ” and means test it. (canada style)”
A bold solution, and one that could work, but it sure doesn’t seem fair that someone pays in to a fund and receives no benefits from it. Isn’t that commonly known as redistribution of wealth? Because you are expecting those who won’t get benefits to pay in to the system until such a time that it is determined that they are worth too much to get benefits, right?
I just don’t think this solution is “fair”, do you?

You are a wise man. FDR saw the danger of government interference with the SS system and annuities. FDR had the system set up properly. Then along came LBJ, who didn't like to be second to anybody, and poof SS was RAIDED for the grand society. Then, along came Clinton and poof SS was again rolled into the federal budget. Democrats started social security and then they raided and destroyed it by changing the laws later. You are correct that it was SS was set up it was NOT a Ponzi scheme, but LBJ and Clinton stole the money, changed the laws and safeguards, and now it's a Ponzi scheme.
I basically understood that SS had become a slush fund for socialist projects along time ago. The MISTAKE that FDR made is that he didn't have SS passed as an Amendment to the Constitution, where theft from later congressional law changes would have had to been OK'ed by the states. SS will never last because it does not have any Constitutional safegauards, and a lot of money is involved.

As long as SS remains tied to the General Fund it is NOT repairable. There IS hope for our SS system,but it needs to be first returned to it’s original foundation, then as you said it needs to come under Constitutional protection. But….If slimey politicians choose to IGNORE the Constitution then we are right back at square one. Whether or not SS benefits can be cut off at any point in time is one thing,but repairing the system is another. Childishy lawyers can quote case law,and the rulings of the SCOTUS yet this STILL does not fix the system. All the citing of the Scotus,and case law accomplishes is shoveling manure against the tide. It’s interesting to watch people come up to speed, and learn what the “birthers” have known since 2008, when the bastard (Obama) was running for President, and we all told them, he didn’t qualify, and the entire episode would be illegal.
Now the illegality includes, sending 1,000 AK47’s to the drug cartels, which I believe have been infiltrated by Hamas, the killing of a federal agent, members of our military thrown in jail, and robbing the U.S.A., of Trillions of dollars. All of this was done, including throwing Israel under the bus, by an illegal federal government, led by a usurper, who’s signature on any document is worthless, and illegal.

The real “fence” is policies that removes the incentives for them to come… This is why Perry’s answer is much anticipated. We know his soft stance in Texas, where does he stand as President? Does he support a national Dream Act like he signed in Texas? Seems like he does relative to his answers to date. Why doesn’t he support an e-verify program? Like Gingrich said, AMEX or Mastercard could implement a low cost version of it virtually overnight.
Seems like Perry’s postions promote a porous border, even though his weak “boots on the ground” argument says otherwise.
It’s the magnet, stupid…should be the retort.
The only reason why such a venture could not be done would be because the politicians do not want it to happen. If enough people who have hit the bottom of the barrel were to converge upon the Southern border it would probably become a real ARMY of potential labor for the project. If Soetoro is interested in producing jobs out of thin air,then this would be one way to go about it. Yes, like FDR so aptly said ” There will be a chicken in every pot”. Now do our unemployed people have the guts to do it or will they whine and light up another joint, or snort another hit of cocaine. It will be their decision. The GREAT WALL OF AMERICA COULD EASILY BE CONSTRUCTED.

Also, in terms of religion, I don’t mind any religion for POTUS, but they have to be a loyal American and love our country which includes defending our friends overseas. Obama has proven to me over and over again, he is not a loyal American, witnessed most recently during the 10th anniversary of 911. That’s my humble opinion. Maybe some people won’t vote for Romney because he’s a Mormon, but in my very Southern Baptist neighborhood, I don’t hear complaints about Romney’s religiion. People are more concerned about jobs and the poor economy.

While I have not yet gotten behind any of the (alleged) candidates, I have not taken ANY of them off of my list. Including Newt Gingrich. You have touched upon something that has been bothering me since day one of Perry’s campaign, and I too am STILL waiting for an answer.
Tina. He says no fence, but says more boots on the ground (not really saying how many or what they will do), while at the same time promoting policies that attract illegal immigration. In addition, “boots on the ground” within the U.S. kind of gives me the creeps. I understand that the border is a different issue, but the U.S. military really shouldn’t be acting as a police force. In fact, it is against the law.

Johnson and Paul don’t care. I’d have to put Perry in the Johnson and Paul camps. Although Perry and Johnson would not subsidize these people because they are more pure libertarian.
Only Perry would let them in the country AND subsidize their existence in our country.
