The truth in print in NC.

I met with John Hammer of the Rhino Times this morning.

I am a long time reader and fan of the Rhino (Rhinoceros) Times, published in Greensboro, NC and with coverage of one of the larger metro areas in NC. Sadly, due to high debt brought on by the economy, the Rhino Times has been forced to shut down its publication.

The Rhino Times exposed the truth about local politicians and officials and John Hammer wrote the truth about Barack Obama.

Like a lot of small businesses, we took a huge hit in 2008, and although we have done everything we could think of, we simply can no longer pay our bills.

Newspapers got hit with the double whammy of the recession and increasing competition from the internet, and we join a long list of newspapers that have closed their doors.

I would especially like to thank our advertisers, some of whom have been advertising with us for over a decade. We appreciate their support. They are the ones who have been footing the bill for us to bring you The Rhino every week.

And I’d like to thank our employees.”

The results of the Sheriff Joe Arpaio investigation of Obama’s birth certificate, Selective Service Application and other records are beginning to surface and a news conference is expected soon. Press coverage, though often biased is increasing. It is good to see Obama questioned in print in NC.

“Finally some reporters are doing some investigation of the life of President Obama. The left has done a great job of making anyone who asks any questions about Obama’s past out to be crazy.

People who just wanted to see Obama’s birth certificate, not anymore than Obama would have to show if he wanted to play Little League baseball, are called “birthers” and are by definition the same folks who see black helicopters hovering over their houses every night. The left has done a remarkably good job of defining people who just wanted to see proof that Obama was born in the United States as nutcases. His Republican opponent in that last election, Sen. John McCain, went to court and proved that even though he was born in Panama, he met the definition of a “natural born citizen.” Obama facing the same challenge went to court and said that he didn’t have to prove that he was a “natural born citizen.”

As it turns out, people had good reason to ask that question about Obama, because for years Obama claimed to have been born in Kenya. He was listed as born in Kenya in his publisher’s biography. That was no doubt done to boost book sales, but it is either evidence that Obama was born in Kenya or evidence that he is not a very honest person. In some of the information about Obama when he was running for the Senate is information that Obama was born in Kenya. Once again it makes him seem more exotic and was supposed to win him more votes, and unless you’re running for president it doesn’t make any difference where you were born.”

Today is Good Friday, March 29, 2013, the remembrance of the Crucifixion of Jesus, a punishment far more brutal than has been portrayed to most of us.

We live in an Orwellian age of misinformation, secularism and attacks on Christianity.

That is why the truth is so important about the essence of Christianity.

Not necessarily what people say about Jesus and Christianity. But what Jesus said, did and endured.

Mark Antonacci, an attorney and agnostic and another author, became a believer after researching the Shroud of Turin.

Antonacci, a St. Louis lawyer, is author of “The Resurrection of the Shroud.” He spoke in a telephone interview about his book about the cloth that he and others believe wrapped the body of Jesus Christ.
His book delves into questions about the wounds suffered by the man whose impression is on the shroud, the shroud’s history and scientific challenges to the carbon dating of the shroud.
Now a Christian, Antonacci said much historical, medical and archaeological evidence exists to prove Christ’s death was consistent with Gospel accounts. The evidence he said he found changed his mind about God.

“In 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. It had been a Category 5 hurricane and made landfall as a Category 3. The devastation to the Gulf coast, including New Orleans, was the costliest in US history. And according to the mainstream media, the devastation – including the large number of people who died, and the fact that displaced people did not have proper shelter, food and water – was the fault of then President George Walker Bush. To this day you hear about what a bad job Bush did during Katrina.”

“However, President Barack Hussein Obama doesn’t get any blame. By walking on the beach with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Obama got a lot of kudos from the mainstream media. Evidently the hurricane was not Obama’s fault and as president he was not responsible for evacuating people from their homes or providing them with shelter, food and water.”

“One thing the mainstream media refuse to understand is that conservatives do not see the growing deficit as the problem but as a symptom of a much more serious problem. The problem is that government has grown far too big and is doing too much for too many people. The result of the government being out of control is an out-of-control deficit.

If this is what you believe, then raising taxes is not a solution because it only allows the government to continue to grow. Liberals don’t see the size of government as a problem, only that the government doesn’t have enough money to pay for all of the worthwhile and important services it performs. For example, liberals believe that all Americans have a God-given right to a cell phone. Cutting out free cell phones for people is not going to balance the budget, but that attitude is what has gotten us where we are.”

“People, including the vast left-wing conspiracy at the News & Record, are all bent out of shape over these secession petitions on the internet. What happened to the right of free speech? You would think that a newspaper would support people’s right to write and sign any kind of petition they want.

For at least the last 40 years there has been a group that protests against war and in favor of world peace in front of the federal courthouse on the corner of Eugene and West Market streets. These people are extremely devoted and believe in their cause. They also believe that somehow standing on a corner in Greensboro, North Carolina, rain or shine, is going to help stop war all over the world. I don’t understand it, but I believe they have every right to stand there and protest whatever they want, and I admire them for their dedication. This is America. We are supposed to have freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.

Maybe some conservative news media have gotten all bent out of shape about these people, but I don’t recall it and I think I would know.

Many of those signing the secessionist petitions think that the federal government is already way too big. They also, for the most part, see the reelection of Obama as irrefutable evidence that the federal government is going to get bigger. Some of them no doubt would really like to secede from the United States of America. States are supposed to have some sovereignty, and if you read the Constitution, states are actually supposed to have a lot of sovereignty. Over the years the states have lost power and the federal government has gained power. Many people would like to see that trend start going the other way and begin moving back so the states in the United States mean something other than a mailing address or a way for Google maps to find a location.”

“People will be glad to know that now that the campaigning is over, Obama is back to his busy schedule running the world during the week and playing golf on the weekends. Obama was back out on the course on the Friday after Thanksgiving for his 106th round as president. However, it is his only 14th round this year because campaigning has taken up so much of his time.

With no campaigns in his future, here’s hoping that Obama can hit the golf course two or three times a week. When he is out on the course the world is a safer place. But it does say a lot about his priorities that wars and disasters don’t keep him off the golf course but a campaign for reelection does.”

I wrote several times during the campaign that the campaigns had better polling data than the public and I was half right. The Obama campaign had much better polling data than the general public and – the exception that proves the rule – the Romney campaign had much worse polling data than the general public. The Romney campaign pollsters completely missed the demographic mix of the electorate. Because of that late, in the campaign Romney was wasting time in states that he didn’t have a chance of winning instead of spending all his time in the true battleground states.”

“During most of his career Orwell was best known for his journalism, both in the British press and in books of reportage such as Homage to Catalonia (describing his experiences during the Spanish Civil War), Down and Out in Paris and London (describing a period of poverty in these cities), and The Road to Wigan Pier (which described the living conditions of poor miners in northern England). According to Newsweek, Orwell “was the finest journalist of his day and the foremost architect of the English essay since Hazlitt.”

Contemporary readers are more often introduced to Orwell as a novelist, particularly through his enormously successful titles Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. The former is considered an allegory of the corruption of the socialist ideals of the Russian Revolution by Stalinism, and the latter is Orwell’s prophetic vision of the results of totalitarianism. Orwell denied that Animal Farm was a reference to Stalinism. Orwell had returned from Catalonia a staunch anti-Stalinist and anti-Communist, but he remained to the end a man of the left and, in his own words, a ‘democratic socialist’.

Orwell is also known for his insights about the political implications of the use of language. In the essay “Politics and the English Language”, he decries the effects of cliche, bureaucratic euphemism, and academic jargon on literary styles, and ultimately on thought itself. Orwell’s concern over the power of language to shape reality is also reflected in his invention of Newspeak, the official language of the imaginary country of Oceania in his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. Newspeak is a variant of English in which vocabulary is strictly limited by government fiat. The goal is to make it increasingly difficult to express ideas that contradict the official line – with the final aim of making it impossible even to conceive such ideas. (cf. Citizen Wells began noting the similarities to Nazi Germany and “1984″ by George Orwell early in 2008 and warning about history repeating.

This morning I experienced another deja vu moment in regard to history repeating itself.

A younger person, who I consider a friend, and I were conversing. I relayed how I recently bit my tongue around some family members who were not as discreet about discussing political matters. I was attending a family function that dictated polite conversation. My younger friend asked if I was one of those birthers who don’t believe that Obama was born here. I stated my customary response of I don’t know where he was born but I do know he has used taxpayer dollars to keep his records hidden. You would have thought that I insulted his mother. I asked him if he wanted to compare notes and he went ballistic and then began calling me names.

To those of you familiar with history this sounds all too familiar.

In 2008 I was attacked verbally and given death threats.

Jon Voight the actor and his family were attacked in 2008 for asking simple questions.

Lou Dobbs, while at CNN, had his house shot at for asking simple, real journalistic questions about Obama.

Jim Pendergraph, after being endorsed by the Charlotte Observer, has now been discredited and the endorsement rescinded for asking simple questions about Obama.

Thought criminals in “1984.”

What troubles me more than my young friend attacking me is that this is happening, just as in Nazi Germany and in “1984″ on a large scale. People with such strong ties to the Democrat Party, to the end justifies the means mentality, that just like their counterparts in Nazi Germany, they lose touch with reality and become automatons.

I had always hoped that if I had lived in Nazi Germany I would have spoken out.

The sad state of journalism, media bias and our entertainment culture highlight the significance of a true journalist, Edward R. Murrow, whose birthday we celebrate today, April 25, 2012.

Today is the birthday of Edward R. Murrow, an icon, a beacon, a shining example of what journalism once was, and can be. He was born just outside of Greensboro, NC.

““O. Henry” is not the only famous North Carolinian born on Polecat Creek in Guilford County. Egbert (he changed it to Edward during college) Roscoe Murrow (April 25, 1908-April 27, 1965) achieved international recognition as a broadcaster for CBS Radio during World War II and set the standard against which television journalists have been judged since.

Murrow’s ancestors were members of the local Society of Friends and staunch Republicans. His father, who took the name Roscoe from New York Senator Roscoe Conkling, moved his young family in 1913 to Blanchard, Washington, where he worked in logging. Egbert enrolled at Washington State College and subsequently went to D.C. as president of the National Student Federation. In 1935 he became “director of talks” for CBS Radio and in 1937 was dispatched to Europe. Hitler’s annexation of Austria in 1938 began Murrow’s rise to fame. His broadcasts during the Battle of Britain, beginning with “This is London,” are legendary.

In 1951 Murrow began the series See It Now, the most noted episode of which on March 9, 1954, included his dissection of Senator Joseph R. McCarthy. His signature on that series was “Good night and good luck.” From 1953 to 1959 he interviewed celebrities and names in the news on Person to Person. In 1961 he left CBS to serve as head of the United States Information Agency in the Kennedy administration. Murrow, rarely photographed without a cigarette, died of lung cancer four years later. His birthplace burned in 1985. Guilford County readily claims Murrow as a native son. A major route in downtown Greensboro is named Murrow Boulevard.”

““This . . . is London.” With those trademark words, crackling over the airwaves from a city in the midst of blitzkrieg, Edward R. Murrow began a journalistic career that has had no equal. From the opening days of World War II through his death in 1965, Murrow had an unparalleled influence on broadcast journalism. His voice was universally recognized, and a generation of radio and television newsmen emulated his style. Murrow’s pioneering television documentaries have more than once been credited with changing history, and to this day his name is synonymous with courage and perseverance in the search for truth.

In 1937, Edward R. Murrow was sent by CBS to set up a network of correspondents to report on the gathering storm in Europe. He assembled a group of young reporters whose names soon became household words in wartime America, among whom were William Shirer, Charles Collingwood, Bill Shael, and Howard K. Smith. The group, which came to be known collectively as “Murrow’s Boys,” reported the whole of World War II from the front lines with a courage and loyalty inspired by Murrow’s own fearlessness. During the war Murrow flew in more than twenty bombing missions over Berlin, and along with Bill Shadel was the first Allied correspondent to report the horrors from the Nazi death camps.

Returning to America after the war, Murrow was surprised to find that his overseas reports had made him a star at home. With the advent of television, Murrow was approached to host a weekly program. Along with his associate, Fred Friendly, Murrow had been producing a popular radio show, Hear It Now. The television show was to be called See It Now. Joe Wershba, a reporter who worked closely with Murrow, remembers, “Neither of them knew anything about film making or television. All they knew was they wanted to do stories. Important stories.” Television was in its infancy and Murrow and Friendly had to learn the process of filmmaking and the primitive television equipment on the job.

Murrow’s love of common America led him to seek out stories of ordinary people. He presented their stories in such a way that they often became powerful commentaries on political or social issues. See It Now consistently broke new ground in the burgeoning field of television journalism. In 1953, Murrow made the decision to investigate the case of Milo Radulovich. Radulovich had been discharged from the Air Force on the grounds that his mother and sister were communist sympathizers. The program outlined the elements of the case, casting doubt on the Air Force’s decision, and within a short while, Milo Radulovich had been reinstated. This one edition of See It Now marked a change in the face of American journalism and a new age in American politics.”

What I am about to present is intended primarily for the Doubting Thomases out there. First some observations. Jesus was born in the Middle East. His skin color, neither lilly white or black, was average. He was born into a lowly existence and therefore could speak to everyone regardless of status. His message is simple and true. I can find no fault with it. He was crucified. No other method of death would have gotten the attention of humans. If that is not enough for you, I have studied the Shroud of Turin for years. I believe that it is real.

The Real Face of Jesus? follows a team of graphic experts as they use cutting-edge 3D software to bring a holy relic known as the Shroud of Turin to life. “The advent of photography in the late 19th century forever altered the course of the shroud’s history. In 1898, a lawyer named Secondo Pia took the first known photograph of the cloth, and his negative revealed new details—including strikingly clear facial features—that could not be observed with the naked eye. Scientific interest in the relic immediately picked up. In 1902, the French anatomist Yves Delage, an agnostic, inspected the photographs and pronounced that the figure on the shroud was indeed Jesus Christ.

The first direct examinations of the cloth were conducted in the 1970s, most famously by the Shroud of Turin Research Project (STURP), a team of scientists led by physicist John P. Jackson of the University of Colorado. The group found that the markings on the cloth were consistent with a crucified body and that the stains were real human blood; they also suggested that the image’s shading patterns contained three-dimensional information. They could not explain how the imprint ended up on the fabric in the first place.

In 1988, scientists removed a swatch of the shroud for radiocarbon testing. Three independent laboratories concluded that the material originated between 1260 and 1390, leading some to deem it inauthentic. Since then, however, further studies have cast doubt on those results, suggesting that the shroud may indeed date back to the time of Jesus Christ’s life and death.

In March 2010, researchers unveiled a revolutionary radiocarbon dating method that could allow scientists to safely establish accurate ages for precious artifacts like the Shroud of Turin. Unlike traditional carbon dating, the new process does not require samples; instead, the entire object is exposed to an electrically charged gas that gently oxidizes its surface without causing damage. This means that, someday soon, the world may have a more precise estimate of the Shroud of Turin’s real age.

In the spring of 2010, the Shroud of Turin will be available for its first public viewing in 10 years, scheduled from April 10 to May 23.”

After reading numerous books and articles on the Shroud of Turin beginning over 30 years ago, I found a book that convinced me that the Shroud could be authentic. Mark Antonacci wrote and published “The Resurrection of the Shroud” in 2000. From the preface:

“It actually began out of nowhere on a Sunday afternoon. I had just had a serious argument with a girlfriend. The problem was that she was religious, and I was not. She was very committed to her religious views, and I was definitely a committed agnostic. Because it was over a matter that threatened our relationship, it caused me great anxiety. Not wanting to hang around the apartment and continue to think about it all day, I decided to go to work at my law office to take my mind off the argument.

When I got to my office, I couldn’t concetrate on my work. Hoping to get my mind off the disagreement, I decided to go across the street and catch some lunch at Hummel’s, my favorite restaurant, and read the paper. On the way I happened to buy a particular newspaper for the only time in my life.

As I was moving down the serving line at Hummel’s with the newspaper on my tray, I couldn’t help but notice the words across the top of the paper, advertising what was inside the weekend edition. In the upper right-hand corner was a facial picture of the man on the shroud; next to it, a caption asked if this was a picture of the historical Jesus Christ. The paper was featuring an article on a recently published book about the Shroud of Turin. The picture was staring up right at me, and as I went down the line, I muttered to myself, “Great, this is just what I need.”

“I did not like seeing this picture and being reminded of the subject and the argument, so I pushed the paper a little bit away from me. As I continued reading, I noticed the picture again and pushed the paper farther away still. I did the same thing another time until, noticing the picture yet again, I finally said, “all right, I’ll read the !$#?% article,” and angrily threw down the sports page and picked up the article on the shroud.”

Now a Christian, Antonacci said much historical, medical and archaeological evidence exists to prove Christ’s death was consistent with Gospel accounts. The evidence he said he found changed his mind about God.
“I came to the conclusion that the literal, actual crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ occurred,” he said.”

They must believe that their followers will accept anything they promote as gospel truth. Anyone paying attention at all knows that the employment picture painted by this graph is not realistic. Here are the facts regarding this graph. Truth Team, pay close attention.

1. The Democrats took control of congress in 2007. That is when the job situation began worsening.

2. The job creation numbers Obama has used have always been suspect.

3. The jobs lost and discouraged workers dropping out of the workforce are not reflected.

Based on the lies and Orwellian attempts to mislead the public I am compelled to give this article 5 Orwells.

One, the steep decline in American jobs correlates to when the Democrats took over control of Congress. Coincidence? Perhaps. But then recall that Barack Obama begins his presidency in 2009 and the decline very much continues well into 2010 where it at least flatlines. 2010 was when Republicans then took control of the House of Representatives and gained a number of seats in the Senate – which the Democrats still control.
$5 TRILLION in lost taxpayer deficit dollars is quite a sum for what that chart reflects – stagnant job growth. Millions who remain unemployed. Millions more who have dropped out of even trying to find work and are therefor not even being counted in the unemployment figures.

For a bit of contrast check out thiscomparative chart detailing the Reagan recovery vs the Obama recovery. One president charged ahead with plans to greatly reduce taxes, lessen regulations, and pushes to increase domestic energy production in the United States. The other president – Barack Obama, called for more taxes, more regulation, and has fought increasing domestic energy production at every opportunity – such as his shutting down of the much-needed Keystone pipeline:”
